This cycle of Saturate Eight, we’re tracking with David’s plea in Psalm 139 where he cries out to God to search his heart, to know his heart, and to point out areas that need some refreshing direction. Like David, we are taking a closer look at the condition of our heart and asking God to give us new direction where needed.
Proverbs 27:19 says, As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person. As we kick-off the New Year, it’s a natural time for each of us to take a look at where we’ve come from over the past twelve months and begin to consider our desires, hopes, dreams, and goals for the next year. With this process comes some level of self-evaluation where we can intentionally choose to take a quick glance at life and make quick adjustments to the things on the surface that need some attention or, like David did, take a deeper look and truly evaluate what it is that is reflected by the actions and portrayals of our own heart.
For some, a more intimate, sincere, honest look may reveal a heart that has been shaped and is a pure reflection representative of the character of God. Keep evaluating, keep checking, keep taking that longer glance to ensure this remains true. Others may evaluate how they’re doing in this area only to determine that what they acknowledge is reflected is riddled with faulty characteristics and desire a change in what their heart is reflecting. Regardless of where you land on that spectrum, know that there is freedom found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Only He can make your heart new.
